The Art Of Mentoring – Educators Retreat (Star River, Nelson, B.C)

Welcome to the “Art Of Mentoring” educators retreat, for the first time ever hosted in Canada at beautiful Star River Sanctuary! This retreat is a rare opportunity to dive-deep into mentorship culture, connect/network with other educators, schools and organizations, and learn directly from Twin Eagles Wilderness School’s co-founder Jeannine Tidwell. Designed for school teachers, outdoor educators, nature enthusiasts, and anyone passionate about becoming a better teacher, guide and mentor to those they work with.

Retreat Description
Ideas and concepts of good mentoring are crucial as we rediscover effective, natural ways of helping people develop deep connections to nature and their communities. Equally as important for people who may not have grown up surrounded by a natural mentoring culture, is the opportunity to experience it firsthand, to develop a “felt sense” of how it works. The Art of Mentoring is an immersion into this culture of awareness.

Participants come together for an immersion into storytelling, ceremonies, celebrations, singing, group activities, adventures, time to wander alone and reflect within the beautiful landscape of Star River Sanctuary. Integral to this experience is a gathering of like-minded spirits, passionately exploring the skills of living intimately with the earth, and discovering more about themselves in the process. This retreat will alter your view of today’s youth and create a possibility for the future like you may not have experienced before.

Included in this retreat are:
🌿 3 organic and delicious meals (2 lunches, 1 dinner) provided by on-site retreat chef

🌿 Over 15 hours of instruction delivered by Jeannine and her assistant
🌿 Fun and engaging group activities
🌿 Peer mentoring sessions
🌿 Group circles and discussions
🌿 Optional overnight stay in one of Star Rivers’ accommodation options

Over the course of this training, facilitators and mentors will create a living cultural basket to surround your experience. Together we discover what it means (and how it feels) to play a part in re-establishing a healthy, vibrant culture of awareness. This experience is essential for anyone interested in bringing mentoring to his or her own community. Many people come together to explore their connection to others who share the same vision, restore their hope and swap stories of lessons learned.

Through a combination of lecture, storytelling, discussions, group activities, nature connection, and peer mentoring sessions, participants will learn the importance of heightened awareness in students, and how it relates to critical thinking and problem solving. We will discover how to use symbol and metaphor to create a powerful educational environment, the role of brain patterning, and the natural flow of the human learning process. We will dive into how stories, song and other artistic expressions open a doorway to authentic student growth while exploring essential routines found throughout the world that ground students in their senses and expand awareness.
