Tanin Shunter

Tanin Shunter is the founder of “Kootenay Rites Of Passage – Coming of Age and Youth Wilderness Programs”. With over 8 years experience mentoring youth (both indoors and outdoors) in the Kootenay area there are few things he enjoys more than helping youth re-connect with the magic, mystery and beauty of Mother Nature.

His professional experiences include a B.A in business, former ECE assistant, leading & facilitating Rites Of Passage programs for teen boys, hiphop/music workshops at local schools, lead-mentor in outdoor nature education programs through The Forest Path, Nature Kids, and most recently Kootenay Rites of Passage.
He is an ongoing student of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition, an earth-honouring wisdom tradition from the heartlands of Peru – with over 8 years of active practice and apprenticeship within this beauty-way.

He views his role as one of empowering the innate wisdom, curiosity, playfulness and creativity within every child/teen he works with, and is honoured to work with the community in co-creating more opportunities for nature-based play, discovery, and learning. He also values the grounding force of steady daily rhythms as a structure and container for day to day learning and activities.

As a hiphop artist (Kosmic T), Tanin also brings a wide repertoire of high-vibe songs to inspire the inner artists of the youth.

In sharing the restorative and re-connective teachings of the PMT it brings him great joy to weave some of the magic, mystery, and beauty of these wisdom-ways into his nature programs – emphasizing respect, sacred reciprocity, and gratitude for the earth, while providing fun, hands-on ways to connect with the essence of these nature-based teachings in a way that is relevant to the youth of the 21st century.

Tanin was raised in Nelson, BC and is ever-grateful to call these majestic mountains home.
